About TCM
Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is a range of traditional medical practices that have
originated in China and developed over several thousand years. These practices include
theories, diagnosis and treatments such as herbal medicine, acupuncture and massage;
often Qigong is also strongly affiliated with TCM.
TCM studies human physiology and pathology. It consists of theory and practice of
diagnosis, prevention and treatment of diseases. It views the human body not only as an
integrated whole, but also inseparable from nature. Therefore, it studies, through synthesis
and analysis, the relationship between the dynamic activities of various parts of the human
body and their relationship to the external environment. TCM elucidates the fundamental
laws of life processes from a macrocosmic perspective, thus serves medical care and the
prevention of diseases.
Since TCM considers the processes of the human body as interrelated and in constant
interact with the environment, it looks for the signs of disharmony in the external and internal
environment of a person in order to understand, treat and prevent illness and disease.
Equally, it attaches great importance to the treatment being in accordance with the physique
of the individual and the seasonal and local conditions. Health and illness are seen as
having not only physical characteristics but also emotional and spiritual dimensions.
